Welcome to DIFF 2014
Welcome to the 8th annual Dallas International Film Festival, presented by AutoNation and a production of the Dallas Film Society.
For more than a century, the art of film has captured the magic of human imagination and the trials of the human spirit. Guided by the steady stream of new technology, film today is a powerful force that, depending on those who wield it, gives a voice to the voiceless and pushes the boundaries of what we consider possible.
This year, as in years past, it is our mission to encourage this universal art form by bringing to Dallas quality independent films from around the world and by promoting our own local filmmakers on an international stage. We are especially excited this year to expand our celebration of Latin American cinema—with a total of eight outstanding films in our Latino Showcase—and to strengthen the cultural ties that bind North Texas to its neighbors across the continents.
We give endless thanks to our hardworking team of DIFF volunteers, our Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Festival committees and juries, and our dedicated Festival staff. Without the concerted efforts of all involved, this 11-day celebration, with other 150 films and several in-depth panels, would not be possible.
We are also immensely grateful for the philanthropic spirit of our sponsors, donors and new Dallas Film Society members. Your support directly benefits the artistic enrichment of Dallas, Texas and beyond.
And of course we must thank the filmmakers, those passionate individuals who work tirelessly to channel their creativity into films that inspire, excite, unnerve and amaze. We continue to be in awe of the passion our filmmakers put into creating their films, and we promise to present and support these works of art—made of blood, sweat, tears and dollars—with the enthusiasm they deserve.
We welcome you all, and we look forward to seeing you throughout this year’s celebration.
With the utmost gratitude,
Chairman of the Board
